Founded in 2023 and based in Seattle, Washington, Chiapas Education Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing electronic waste and expanding technology access for underserved communities. We collect recycled electronics in Washington State to equip schools in Chiapas, Mexico, with access to technology, bridging the digital divide for students. Locally, we support low-income BIPOC families from Everett to Tacoma by refurbishing computers and offering free basic tech training. Together, we reduce
e-waste while empowering communities through education and opportunity.
International Impact
In Chiapas, Mexico, we empower students across four schools—from preschool to high school by providing access to essential technology. Additionally, we’ve established two recreational centers where children, including those who work to support their families, can safely explore and build technology skills outside traditional school settings.
Local Impact:
Locally, we support low-income BIPOC families from Everett to Tacoma by refurbishing computers and offering free basic tech training. Participants in our classes learn essential skills and get to keep the computers they refurbish.
Our local projects include:
- Refurbishing and selling affordable computers:
desktops for $50 and laptops for $100.
- Free basic computer repair classes, including hands-on experience.
- Donation-based technical support for seniors.
- **Project Part It**: This initiative helps low-income BIPOC students repair rather than replace their computers. We assist with upgrades like SSDs, charging only for parts while labor is donation-based.
- Hosting free workshops to teach skills like installing SSDs and maintaining computers.
